Methodology

All designers love a creative concept, but good design isn’t just about appearance. Creativity has to be coupled with experience and understanding of functionality, usability and accessibility to deliver a solution for the real world. We work through four key stages to produce a design solution that meets your business objectives.

Discover

This is the needs analysis stage, identifying the project objectives, issues and requirements. It is the road map to which both designer and client refer on the route to a successful business outcome.

At Lighthouse we will work with you to understand your existing brand values and what differentiates you from your competition. Who is your target audience? What are the objectives and challenges for this project? What information do you want to communicate? What problems need to be solved?

To ensure our response meets your project requirements we research and gather information that will help shape our thinking and our design solution.

Define

Next we work with you to refine the brief, ensuring we fully understand the brand requirements and deliverables, as well as the overall message objectives and values the brand is to communicate.

We prepare storyboards, sitemaps, wireframes and user interaction mock-ups to help define how your brochure, website, video or app will be structured and accessed.

We identify the formats to be followed and the needs for the design solution to feed into new or existing marketing and social media strategies. At the same time we produce a project schedule and budget estimate.

For digital projects we identify appropriate technologies to use in the build as well as any existing or third party systems that need to be integrated before preparing a functional specification.

Develop

This is the design stage, where we combine creativity with experience, innovation and technology to produce a design solution that will engage and excite. We provide a number of visuals, storyboards or mock-ups that offer different creative approaches to the brief.

For websites, concepts are prepared as front end design visuals along with wireframe plans to develop the user experience and test interactions.

Examples of how branding could be implemented in livery, advertising, brochure, stationery and signage are visualised along with page spreads and layout options.

And for video production storyboards and draft scripts are developed along with example of production style and tone. If appropriate short segments of draft animation, motion graphics or footage may be prepared to illustrate the overall style and tone to be followed.

Deliver

Finally, the implementation stage. With design and concept agreed we move onto production.

For print and exhibition projects all artwork is carefully reviewed to check copy, image quality, colour separation, pagination and cutter guides.

For digital and web projects, templates are coded, applications developed, client content integrated and pages populated. Before migration from test area to live website, a full testing and bug fixing process is completed to ensure the website is ready for launch.

For video production, shooting list schedules are drawn up and production begins. Motion graphics and animation are fully storyboarded, built and rendered. Final films are prepared as high definition and social media friendly formats.
